Search and Rescue Team conducts annual missing person training at Eno River State Park.
Durham, NC – October 24, 2009 – Central North Carolina Search and Rescue (CNCSAR), a local all-volunteer Search and Rescue will be hosting their annual missing person exercise at Eno River State Park on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
The exercise, known as a “Mock Search”, is a multi-discipline emergency preparedness training exercise that will allow local teams an opportunity to practice response to a missing person incident, promoting greater cooperation and cross-training among local search organizations. In addition, local Search and Rescue teams provide community outreach as well as training related to missing or lost persons preparedness.
The Eno River state park covers 4,000 acres in Orange County, North Carolina and provides a challenging as well as realistic environment for Wilderness Search and Rescue teams to respond to, locate and rescue a missing person.
CNCSAR President Jay Royster explains that, “realistic training scenarios are key to our team’s ability to provide highly trained searchers on-call for law enforcement agencies. Search emergencies occur without warning, often in the middle of the night. Training exercises with other emergency service organizations allows us to remain ready to and it is our preparation that allows us to respond immediately when called.
This year, CNCSAR will be welcoming representatives from the Durham and Apex Police Departments, as well as both of their Explorer posts. Law Enforcement Explorer posts help youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth. Additional Search and Rescue groups will also be participating in the event, including R.E.D.S., Wake K9 Search and Rescue, NC Search and Rescue Dog Association and the American Red Cross. Specially trained search dog teams, wilderness search, command and medical teams will take part in the mock search.
This exercise provides opportunities for members of the emergency service organization in Incident Command, organizing and directing the search, in support positions, providing food and transportation for searchers, and in the field as ground searchers, search dog handlers, mounted searchers or medical teams.
CNCSAR is an all-volunteer non-profit search team in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. They offer highly skilled searchers and certified dog teams to requesting agencies free of charge. Their resources are available 24 hours a day. CNCSAR also provides preventive search programs to community groups upon request.
